About Us

The Colby Birds will create a community on campus where students, faculty, and members of the Colby community can share their mutual appreciation for nature through participation in bird-focused activities. Proposed programs include birdwatching opportunities and trips on and off-campus, building nest boxes, establishing and maintaining native gardens for bird habitats, collaborating with local/regional/national birding and conservation organizations, and educational opportunities such as speaker events and workshops. Birding, and nature-appreciation more broadly, are activities that anyone can partake in regardless of experience. We want to share inclusive opportunities for people to join in, get to know birds and our ecosystem, practice nature conservation on campus, and foster a shared positive experience with nature in Colby’s community.
