Mission
The Colby Contra Dance Club organizes contra dances on campus for the Colby and greater Waterville community as well as taking field trips to local contra dances. Contra dances are community-oriented folk dances with a live string band and caller. Contra calls that you might recognize include “do-si-do,” “promenade,” and “swing your partner.” Contra dancing is very friendly to beginners; since each dance allows the opportunity to be with a new partner, and is taught by the caller in advance, newcomers catch on quickly. All you need to do is show up in your best dancing shoes or socks! If you’d like to join our email list or our Planning Committee, please reach out to our club leaders.
