Student Employment At Colby

 

If you're interested in employment opportunities while at Colby, there are lots of options!  From research assistants through technology services, there are positions in most academic and administrative departments for all interested students throughout the school year and during the summer. Common roles include working in a library, administrative offices, research laboratories, and more. 

 

Positions will have different pay rates based on the job description, and the minimum wage at Colby is $15.10. Federal Work-Study and International students are given priority to meet their financial aid earnings award via early access to job fairs; please contact Student Employment for more information! Please note that there are no off-campus student employment opportunities via Colby, though the Office of Civic Engagement has lots of ways to get involved with the local community.  

 

Please keep in mind that all student new to working on campus will be required to complete an I-9 document before working and in order to be paid! 

Students may work multiple jobs, but can only work up to 12 hours total per week, maximum, across all jobs held.

The Colby Student Employment Team will be available to meet you during the Colby College Move-In Day Resource Fair!

Please bring your original effective IDs to complete your employment verification form (I-9 form).

  • The documents you will need will vary depending on your citizenship status and place of residence. The list of accepted IDs is HERE.

  • You can find more information about the I-9 process on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

  • Even if you have yet to apply for jobs, completing I-9 will help process your employment, in addition to sending your original IDs back to your family for safe-keeping.

Onboarding Requirements

Students who have been offered a first-time campus job or hired into a job must complete the Onboarding Requirements before their first day of work. This includes:

  • Filling out form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification): This must be completed in-person and online.

  • It is possible to complete the I-9 in-person process even before getting hired for your first job. Make an appointment with the student employment office to do this.

    • You will need to bring valid and unexpired documents, a list of which you can find HERE

    • Please review the video guide on our webpage before your in-person appointment to fill the I-9

  • Completing Federal and State Taxes in Workday. 

  • Setting up Direct Deposit

    • Fill out the bank information where you will be receiving your pay.

Finding A Job

Student jobs at Colby are listed on Workday, which you'll need your Colby log-in to access.  Once logged in, type "Find Student Jobs" in the search bar, click on the Find Student Job Report, and your results should pop right up!  Please keep in mind that many jobs currently posted are for the summer, and more jobs will continually be posted as we move toward fall.  To explore and apply for jobs, you can find a written guide HERE.

Working as an International Student?

Students studying at Colby with an F-1 are authorized to work only on campus or through an approved CPT opportunity.  Working off-campus without approval can result in your F-1 visa being terminated.  Please contact Aura Moreno, International Visa Specialist, with questions.

International students can take any work position on Colby's campus! The I-9 process for international students is a bit different; for more information, check out the International Students section on the Student Employment webpage.
