Make Your Mark with Institutional Research

On behalf of the Office of Institutional Research & Analytics, welcome to Colby! We are so glad you're here. You may not have heard of an institutional research office before, but one of our roles is to conduct surveys of the student body to gather insights on your experiences here, both inside and outside of the classroom. You should expect to receive several such surveys throughout your Colby career. Results from these surveys are used to help make your time at Colby as satisfying and successful as possible.

In that spirit, we are inviting you to complete our Entering Student Survey. The survey asks questions about your high school experiences, your college choice process, your expectations of college, your possible career and post-college plans, and some other issues related to adjusting to college. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

Please note that your individual responses to the survey questions will not be identified with you publicly, so please be as candid as possible!

When you click on the survey link (or press the button below), you will be asked to enter your Colby e-mail address to proceed.

If you have any questions about the survey, please email me at cphourig@colby.edu

Thank you, and best of luck as you begin your Colby journey!

Sincerely,

Christopher Hourigan
Director of Institutional Research & Analytics

Title IX Office & Sexual Violence Prevention (SVP) Training

At Colby College, The Title IX Office serves as a resource hub for students affected by sexual misconduct.  The Title IX Office provides intake for sexual misconduct reports, facilitates sexual misconduct resolution processes, addresses individual and campus-wide safety concerns, and coordinates supportive measures including academic and housing accommodations. The Title IX Office is overseen by Title IX Coordinator Emily Schusterbauer, who can be reached at eeschust@colby.edu or 207-859-4266.  The Title IX Office also provides students with two Confidential Resource Advisors (CRAs) who are available 24/7 to provide confidential support and advocacy if you have experienced a concerning event and need support.  Confidential support can be reached 24/7 at 207-509-9122.

Additionally, The Title IX Office administers sexual misconduct prevention efforts designed to promote a campus climate in which sexual respect is the norm and all students feel safe to pursue their academic and extra-curricular goals.

Central to Colby’s effort to create a respectful and knowledgeable campus is our mandatory sexual violence prevention (SVP) programming for incoming students.

In Fall 2026, Colby’s sexual violence prevention programming for incoming students will consist of:

  • A mandatory two-session interactive sexual misconduct prevention training

The two-session sexual violence prevention training is designed to engage students in sustained discussion about the complex issues of sexual consent, healthy relationships, and sexual misconduct. Each 75-minute session will be led by a team of trained sexual violence prevention peer educators. These peer-led training sessions will give you a comprehensive understanding of Colby’s sexual misconduct policies and procedures and introduce you to the basic skills necessary to safely intervene in incidents of sexual misconduct before they escalate. The training will also give you the tools to effectively support a friend who may have experienced sexual misconduct.

These peer-led sessions will be offered at various times during September and early October (and January for GES students). They are designed to be small and scheduled to accommodate a range of academic and co-curricular schedules. You can access the full training schedule and register for the two-session training that best fits your schedule by visiting the First-Year Experience Hub in Colby Mule Life.

It is important that you register for the two-session training that best fits your schedule by Friday, September 11th (or January 8th for GES Students) and that you complete this requirement on time. Please contact Emily Schusterbauer at eeschust@colby.edu with any questions or concerns.

As members of the Colby community, we are all obligated to work to counter the prevalence of sexual violence in our culture. These programs will begin to give you the tools needed to do so, and Colby’s support and reporting resources are available to help.
