To Do: Your Health at Colby

Sonnet Graham - Tuesday, June 16
 General

Greetings Class of 2030!

On behalf of Colby College, I'd like to welcome you to the Colby community!  I'm excited to have you join us in the Fall.

To prepare for your arrival, I want to orient you to the health services you can expect at Colby and to collect some important medical information from you (see the headers below) in order to support your health and wellness.

Student Health & Wellness Services

Colby College partners with MaineGeneral Health to provide high-quality healthcare to all Colby students. MaineGeneral’s Thayer Center for Health houses the Colby student health center, MaineGeneral College Health, a medical office dedicated to meeting the health needs of all Colby students. The Thayer Center, and its College Health office, is less than 1 mile from the Colby campus, at 149 North Street in Waterville, Maine. Free transportation is available for all students via the Colby Jitney van and the campus shuttle service, which can be reserved and tracked via the Colby GO app.

MaineGeneral College Health offers the full range of primary healthcare services, including physical exams, gynecological services, travel health visits, care for injuries and illnesses, as well as behavioral health evaluations and medical management. In addition to all the medical services offered at the Thayer Center, which are billed to students’ health insurance, the Garrison Foster building on campus offers an array of free wellness resources. The Office of Student Wellness provides a selection of free over-the-counter medicines and health supplies, free prescription delivery from Oakland Pharmacy, and a Wellness Space for student relaxation and enjoyment. Also in Garrison Foster, our partners at Colby Counseling Services offer high-quality and accessible mental health services to students, free of cost.

If you anticipate requiring additional support while on campus, due to a medical condition, I encourage you to reach out to MaineGeneral College Health directly, so we can help you access the resources you need. Please contact the MaineGeneral College Health at (207) 861-6860, option 1, to speak with one of our medical staff. Our College Health office is open from 8:30am to 5:00pm on Monday through Friday.

For support with accessing accommodations, Colby Student Access & Disability Services is available to discuss accommodations needs. Contact accommodations@colby.edu with any questions.

I look forward to meeting you soon, and I wish you the best for a healthy summer.

Sincerely,

Collyn J. Baeder, M.P.H.

Director of Student Wellness & Health Resources, Colby College

Set Up Your Health Insurance

The Colby ‘Anthem’ Health Insurance Plan is designed to align with the services available through MaineGeneral College Health. Please familiarize yourself with the ‘Anthem’ Plan’s benefits information. It is mandatory for all students to either enroll or waive Colby’s Health Insurance annually, in order to notify Colby about whether you plan to continue with your own health insurance or choose the Colby ‘Anthem’ Plan. If you wish to waive Colby’s health insurance, then your own insurance plan must provide for more than just emergency care in the State of Maine (including preventive and primary care). In this case, please call your insurance provider to ensure that, as a student studying at Colby College, you will have access to full healthcare benefits at MaineGeneral Health while you are in the State of Maine. (Most out-of-state Medicaid and regional HMO plans do not meet this requirement.) Review these coverage considerations to ensure that your health insurance is comparable to the coverage provided by the Colby ‘Anthem’ Plan.

Upload Your Medical Information Forms

In order to promote the wellbeing of our community, we ask all incoming students to complete an Immunization Form and a Tuberculosis (TB) Screen Form. Student athletes only must complete one additional Physical Examination Form. The deadline for completing the required forms is July 15th. For full instructions for completing these health requirements can be found by clicking the button below. We appreciate your promptness in completing these forms!
