Overview of Summer Advising
June 1 - June 15: During this time, you need to first watch the general advising video (~20 minutes long) about Colby’s liberal arts curriculum and how to start getting ready for fall registration (slides for the video). Then you should sign up for a small group Advising Session June 8-15 in the Mule Life Events section and attend a small group Zoom session with a summer faculty advisor to have your questions answered and receive additional advice on how to start thinking about fall registration.
June 16 - June 21 : During this week, students will explore potential classes on their own and will start building potential class schedules, perhaps watching specialized advising videos (titles and links to the left) and/or look at advice given from academic departments. Once again, students will have the option to meet with one of our summer faculty advisors in a small group session to address specific questions and to receive more individualized advice. These sessions appear as events in Mule Life that you can register for independently. If you'd like one-on-one advice, you can attend an advising session and ask for individual time with the faculty advisor.
June 22 : On Monday, June 22, registration will begin at 9:00 am US EDT. Summer faculty advisors will be available all week in drop-in Zoom sessions to answer questions. Prepare in advance for registration using the resources on the Workday Student information page, including on how to register for fall courses.
June 22nd - August 17th : Registration will remain open so that you can tweak your schedule as needed.
Mid-August : On August 17, any seat in a course reserved for specific groups of students (for example: a major or minor in a discipline) that is not filled will become available to any student eligible to take the course. These seats are offered to students on waitlists first; those offers will expire after 24 hours if not acted upon. On the Monday before classes start, all waitlists will be cleared and any eligible student can register for an open seat, although for some classes instructor approval will be required to do so. We recommend that you keep an eye on your Workday notifications and Colby email during this period. Registration will continue to remain open through the beginning of September!
Early September : You will be assigned a liberal arts advisor at the beginning of September. There is time to meet with your liberal-arts advisor built into your orientation schedule, so you do not need to stress about finding another time to meet with them over the summer! They will continue to support you through the first year journey until you declare a major.
Got Questions?--Summer Support is here for you!: Throughout the rest of the summer, questions sent to the sfa@colby.edu email address will be answered by one of our faculty advisors, a class dean, or a student worker until you are assigned a liberal arts advisor at the beginning of September (about the time you arrive on campus).
