LEARNING TO BE ALCOHOL INFORMED
Dear Class of 2030,
Later in the fall, you will be required to complete eCHECKUP TO GO, a personalized, evidence-based alcohol and marijuana education program as part of the First Year Experience. The choices you make around substances can have a significant impact on your college experience, making the content of this course valuable to your overall success. For most students, this activity will take less than 30 minutes.
While eCHECKUP TO GO is a personalized program with education resources geared specifically to the consumption practices you identify, we also aim to introduce safe consumption practices before you arrive on campus. We ask that all incoming students take 7 minutes to watch four short videos that are not only focused on the self and individual behaviors, but also about how to keep others safe around us.
Everyone knows the stereotype – college students drink. While this is not true of all Colby students (and may or may not be of interest to you), it is important for everyone joining our community to understand how to minimize the risks of drinking and respond to situations when someone has had too much.
Even if you feel like you already learned these things in the past, please take 7 minutes to review these four short videos. These real-world tips could help protect you or a friend:
Thank you for partnering with us to make our community the best it can be!
Looking forward to your arrival,
Collyn Baeder & the FYE team
Meet the Community Values Team
Greetings from the Office of Community Values!
Our office is here to support you as you become part of the Colby community. We help students understand community expectations, navigate conflict, and work through concerns in ways that encourage learning, accountability, and growth.
It is important to know that our process is educational! When someone reports that a student may have violated a College policy, we work with students to understand what happened, consider the impact of their choices, and identify meaningful ways to move forward.
Beyond the conduct process, our office is a resource to ALL students and student groups. We help to build community and support students in navigating group and interpersonal conflicts with the goal of addressing harm and restoring relationships.
We encourage you to review the Student Handbook. It includes important information about Colby’s community values, expectations, policies, and resources that will support you throughout your time here.
We are excited to welcome you to Colby and see you on campus soon!
